Flow Loop - Curtin University

A purpose-built research facility constructed to support Curtin’s custom floor loop testing, featuring integrated services, accessibility upgrades, and risk-mitigated trenching works to preserve ongoing campus operations.

With the stakeholders using an aging shed adjacent to B614 on Tech Park, this project was created by Curtin to create a new facility in the landscaped area to accommodate the custom-built floor loop. The project object was to provide a contemporary facility which reinforces the importance of research being undertaken at the University.

The facility consisted of a new building and associated infrastructure – both structural and new integrated services to enable this research including safety mechanisms to provide gas, electrical and communications supply for flow loop testing of mercury containing fluids.

Upon mobilisation, extensive surveys were undertaken to identify unknown and known services in the surrounds to ensure all risk mitigating strategies could be created and implemented by Trigon Projects to not disrupt existing operations at the University. Hand and vacuum exaction was undertaken for new services trenches to facilitate this. As well as the new facility, we upgraded the adjacent building’s main switchboard, created compliant walkways and new ramps to ensure full accessibility, egress of gas canisters and use of forklifts of equipment to the building.
