Qantas Lounge, Broome Airport
A high-spec lounge fit out delivered seamlessly in a live airport environment.
Working airside within Broome International Airport, we transformed a warm shell fit-out into the new Qantas Lounge. This lounge was designed to set the benchmark for lounges across regional airports in Western Australia.
Across the lounge, we delivered the architectural vision to create a new entry with a lowered bulkhead that opened into the main space, forming a quiet zone along with low and high dining areas adjacent to both front-of-house and back-of-house kitchen spaces. Beyond the dining zone, the lounge featured open collaborative zones, quiet pods for working, and a mix of individual and group seating options. Specialist finishes were installed throughout, including Qantas Staron signage, decorative brickwork used as screening elements, and multiple flooring types to define functional zones.
In terms of services, an extensive switchboard relocation and upgrade was undertaken to support the lounge’s operations and Qantas’ technology, including a new tannoy system. A custom Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) unit was designed and procured to ensure energy efficiency in response to the local climate.
All works were completed airside, requiring the team to obtain ASIC clearances and comply with strict airport protocols. This included coordinating works outside the tenancy and scheduling activities around flight operations. Crane lifts to install new mechanical plant in constrained airside locations demanded detailed planning and close communication.
An additional complexity arose due to a latent condition in the existing slab. The originally specified fire collars were found to be non-compliant. We facilitated and participated in multiple workshops to identify and implement a compliant solution.
